Monica Tyler – June Employee Spotlight

When Monica Tyler joined Nippon Sanso Matheson in 2015, she saw an opportunity to be part of something larger than herself. With more than 20 years of experience in logistics, she brought extensive knowledge in bulk gas transportation, international export, and compliance-driven operations. Today, as International Logistics Supervisor based in Irving, Texas, Monica continues to play a key role in keeping global operations moving safely and efficiently, and maintain Nippon Sanso Matheson’s impressive on-time delivery record

No two days in logistics are ever the same, and that’s part of what Monica enjoys most about her work. She oversees international exports, supports her team, and collaborates across departments to ensure operations run smoothly while prioritizing Nippon Sanso Matheson’s high standards and meeting strict compliance requirements. Throughout her career at Nippon Sanso Matheson, she has been heavily involved in acquisition transitions, helping align processes, train teams, and maintain service continuity during periods of change.

While operational success is important, Monica takes the greatest pride in the growth of the people around her. She has watched team members develop from planners into project leaders, compliance experts, and key contributors who help drive the team’s success. Through Nippon Sanso Matheson’s training initiatives, system improvements, and a focus on continuous improvement, she has helped create an environment where employees can adapt, learn, and thrive.

For Monica, the collaborative culture at Nippon Sanso Matheson is what makes the company stand out. She values Nippon Sanso Matheson’s supportive, safety-first environment and appreciates the organization’s commitment to employee development and process improvement. In an industry where safety is critical, she takes pride in working for a company that prioritizes safety first in everything they do.

Outside of work, Monica enjoys spending time with friends and family, whether it’s gathering for game nights or exploring the outdoors through fishing, camping, river floating, and beach vacations. Her advice to both new employees and aspiring logistics professionals is simple: stay adaptable, keep learning, and lean on the people around you. After all, one of her favorite reminders is, “Everything is figureoutable”, a mindset that has served her well throughout a career where, as she puts it, “if you think you’ve seen it all, just wait until tomorrow.”

Joshua Withem – May Employee Spotlight

For Josh Withem, delivering propane is about something bigger than just moving product; it is about making sure customers are taken care of while keeping safety at the center of every decision. As a propane delivery driver for Nippon Sanso Matheson at the Plain City, Ohio site, Josh starts his mornings before most people are awake, preparing his truck, reviewing his stops, and making sure everything is ready for the day ahead. After nearly three years with Nippon Sanso Matheson and two decades of professional driving experience, that routine has become second nature.

Josh joined the company after earning his Hazmat and tanker endorsements and searching for the right fit. He found that fit at Nippon Sanso Matheson, where the safety-first culture aligned with what matters most to him. As a father of four boys and a husband of 21 years, he values working for a company that prioritizes employees making it home safely every day.

That mindset has also made Josh a leader among his teammates. As the most senior driver at the Plain City site, he has helped train and guide a large group of new drivers, teaching them not only how to do the job correctly but also how to do it safely. His manager noted, “Josh has been instrumental in helping them understand the propane market in our area, our customer expectations, and Nippon Sanso Matheson’s safety protocols.” His teammates say he consistently steps up by going above and beyond to ensure customers have propane when they need it and by helping strengthen the culture at the site through his professionalism, consistency, and positive attitude.

For Josh, the people around him are one of the best parts of the job. He describes his coworkers as friends rather than just colleagues and appreciates the teamwork that starts each morning with daily safety meetings, and discussions about the day’s plan. That sense of collaboration has helped create an environment where newer employees feel supported and experienced employees continue leading by example.

Outside of work, Josh enjoys spending time gardening, which he considers both calming and a valuable life skill. He also enjoys riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers whenever he can. Whether he is helping train a new driver, delivering propane safely to customers, or spending time with his family, Josh brings the same steady dedication and reliability to everything he does.

Adiel Mebrahtu, with her background in accounts receivable and payable, joined Nippon Sanso Matheson’s Irving, TX team to be part of a well-established company in the gas industry. She now has over 25 years of accounting expertise and serves as a Cash Apps Specialist, using her strong attention to detail, time-management skills, and project coordination to ensure the department’s cash processes operate efficiently.

“I learned to move forward even when the path wasn’t clear.”

Adiel

In her role, Adiel helps manage a high volume of customer payments, with her team processing up to 3,000 ACH transactions totaling around $25 million each week. Her responsibilities include reviewing remittances, organizing payment data, ensuring payments are received from the bank on time and in the correct amounts, and confirming everything is applied accurately. She also supports daily team operations by guiding priorities, training new hires, and assisting with troubleshooting when issues arise.

One of the most formative moments in Adiel’s career came during the COVID‑19 pandemic, when her team navigated a transition to a new accounting software. Amid evolving processes and limited real‑time training and IT support due to time zone differences, she quickly mastered the system while maintaining operational continuity during a particularly demanding period. The experience became one of her proudest accomplishments, strengthening her ability to adapt, problem‑solve, and lead through uncertainty. As she puts it, “I learned to move forward even when the path wasn’t clear.”

Adiel values the collaborative nature of her team and the role each person plays in their shared success. She appreciates Nippon Sanso Matheson’s flexible work environment, which has enabled her to balance her career while raising her children. She also finds value in the company’s focus on organization and safety, which helps create a structured and supportive workplace.

Outside of work, Adiel enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, walking, and volunteering at her church. She encourages others to maintain a positive mindset and be supportive teammates, especially during busy or challenging times. Her approach reflects a steady commitment to both her work and the people around her.

Chloe Farris has built her career around one core mission: keeping people safe. With a degree in Occupational Safety and Health, she began in the aerospace industry before moving into consulting and safety training across multiple industries. That path resulted in her joining Nippon Sanso Matheson as a contractor, and by September 2023, she became a full-time Process Safety Management Specialist in Irving, TX, a role she describes as exactly what she was looking for.

In her position, Chloe focuses on Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP). Her work includes traveling to facilities nationwide to conduct compliance audits, lead process hazard analyses, and support key PSM and RMP programs. The role requires constant critical thinking, especially when balancing resources, timelines, and differing perspectives to control hazards and manage risk effectively.

Her proudest accomplishment isn’t a single project, but the relationships she’s built across the country. Chloe works to shift the perception of compliance audits from something intimidating to an opportunity to learn and improve. She takes pride in creating a supportive environment where colleagues know she’s there to help them strengthen safety practices.

For Chloe, the people at Nippon Sanso Matheson make the difference. She values building relationships, collaborating across departments, and learning something new each day. She also appreciates the shared commitment to safety: everyone is aligned around the goal of keeping one another healthy and ensuring each person makes it home safely.

Her advice to new employees is simple: ask questions and welcome constructive feedback. There is a wealth of knowledge within the industry, and growth comes from being open to learning. Above all, Chloe trusts her instincts, if something feels off, she believes it’s always worth investigating.

The challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic brought changes to many in the workforce. Kevin Jacobs, although essential, found himself in need of a new opportunity. Not one to sit idly by during lockdowns and uncertain labor force conditions, Kevin was driven to find his next position. He landed a phone interview with Nippon Sanso Matheson and stepped into a newly created Credit Representative role in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A South Dakota State University graduate with a degree in Economics, Kevin brings a diverse background spanning customer service, office management, sales, and more than 15 years of experience in accounts payable and receivable.

In his role, Kevin manages collections and accounts receivable for approximately 1,200–1,400 active accounts. His days are spent responding to emails and calls, processing and applying payments, and researching billing issues or missing and misapplied payments. One of the most challenging parts of his job is tracking down customers who have relocated multiple times or resolving issues that may have originated years ago.

Kevin genuinely cares about making a real difference. He faces challenges bravely, and his dedication has truly made a measurable impact. Since joining Nippon Sanso Matheson, he has helped reduce the average Days Sales Outstanding for the Sioux Falls and Aberdeen locations by 19% over five years. His manager, Brent Kirk, says, “I am always impressed by how he tackles any problem, no matter the size, with intelligence, compassion, and professionalism.  I truly enjoy working alongside him.”

What Kevin enjoys most about working at Nippon Sanso Matheson is the collaborative culture within the credit team. He regularly works with Regional and Site Managers, Inside and Outside Sales, Cash Applications, and fellow Credit Reps to resolve complex account issues. Kevin especially appreciates the company’s strong commitment to safety and genuine concern for employee well-being. He demonstrates his commitment to safety culture by serving as an active member of his location’s safety committee, which he has proudly been part of throughout his entire tenure.

Outside of work, Kevin enjoys woodworking, reading, and fishing when time allows. His advice to new teammates is simple: don’t be afraid to ask questions, speak up with ideas, and do the job right the first time.
